The formative phase in Zambia launched the first research data collection within Decide TB. It took place from mid-February to the end of April 2024, in the province of Copperbelt (District of Chingola and Luanshya) and Southern (Districts of Chirundu and Kalomo).
It was carried out by UNZA research assistants and national and district-level NTP representatives (team of 4 to 6 people). One or two days were spent in each health facility / community.
Important lessons were learned in terms of health systems organisation, strengths and weaknesses, including the challenges in access to care and diagnostic services in some of the more rural districts.
Perceptions and attitudes towards childhood TB were documented, allowing tailored design of the health care workers training curricula and community mobilisation programmes by the NTP.
