Endline research data collection in Zambia and Mozambique
As part of the Decide TB endline research activities, the team recently carried out field data collection in selected districts in Zambia, including Luanshya and Chingola (see pictures).
This research activity aimed to understand stakeholders’ experiences regarding the implementation of the TDA-based approach for childhood TB diagnosis. It also explored how the potential benefits of this approach were perceived and valued within health facilities and communities.
Using mixed methods — including questionnaires and interviews — the research explored the acceptability, feasibility and integration of Treatment Decision Algorithms into routine care, while also gathering perspectives on their potential sustainability and scalability.
Data were collected from healthcare workers, district and provincial authorities, and caregivers of children receiving TB treatment.
After several months of fieldwork in Zambia, same research activities have now started in Mozambique, marking another important step in the evaluation of the Decide TB study in both countries.
A big thank you to the research assistants for their hard work in the field!
