Implementation of digital data collection tools in health centers

In health facilities in Mozambique and Zambia, individual clinical data is collected within paper-based registers or digital medical charts (SmartCare in Zambia, SIS-TB in Mozambique).
With support from the Decide TB project, National TB programmes officers, and researchers from UNZA (Zambia) and INS (Mozambique) are training health care workers (HCWs) to digitalize health data.

Prior and during the Standard of Care (SOC) phase of the trial, HCWs were trained to enter data from TB registers (and specifically the presumptive TB register) within the District Hospital Information Systems (DHIS2), as aggregated data. See photos below.

At the time of TDA deployment and start of the intervention phase of the Decide TB trial in each district, HCWs will be trained to use an Electronic Medical Records (EMR) to collect data among children with presumptive TB. This individual data collection tool will be used in all participating facilities (DH and PHC), to support the implementation of the comprehensive TDA-based approach.
It has been developed on the DHIS2 system and will be accessed on tablets. This tool integrates the calculation of the TDA score, which will help HCWs make decisions regarding the diagnosis and treatment of TB in children.
